Nikiti is the capital of the Municipality of Sithonia. It lies 105 km away from Thessaloniki and 36 km from Polygyros, the capital city of the Prefecture of Chalkidiki. Residents are mainly occupied in the sector of tourism or produce olives, olive oil and honey.

The name of the town means land of Neakitos; it was a dependency of Xenophon Monastery on Mount Athos as early as 300 AD, at the present-day location of Psalida, just before the crossroads for Marmaras. A prehistoric settlement has been found at the location of Kastri.

A busy, truly long stretch of shore, with clean, blue-green waters throughout its area. Nikiti beach is mainly favoured by young people; its organised beach bars offer loud music and fun for swimmers. Restaurants are very close to the sunbeds, on the other side of the road, while visitors can hire equipment to enjoy water sports.

This is one of the most famous beaches on the peninsula of Sithonia. The vast, spotless sandy beach with its crystal waters attracts thousands of visitors every year. Green pine trees and rocks embrace the rest of the natural landscape in harmony. There are beach bars and the sea is suitable for families with children.

Mount Itamos, on the peninsula of Sithonia, Chalkidiki, is part of the NATURA 2000 “Special Protected Areas Network”. Itamos was named after the tree of the same name found there. The total protected area is 181,426 stremmas (around 45 acres). The region’s landscape mainly consists of wooded hills and open forests. It is an important habitat for birds of prey. Furthermore, the Dragoudeli forest is home to a population of an endangered deer species. Significant threats to Mount Itamos are fires, excessive building and overgrazing.

The Historical and Folklore Museum of Nikiti is housed in the stone school of the old village settlement. The school was built in 1870 and is a historic listed building. The folklore collection features around 1,500 items, donated by the residents of Nikiti to local philologist Dimitrios Dimaras over the last 20 years. More than 500 items are closely related with archival material, modern photographic and oral documents and narratives on film. All these media highlight a range of aspects of the locality and lives of Nikiti residents.

The church lies a few meters west of the present-day chapel of St. George, close to Nikiti beach. It dates back to the first half of the 5^th century A.D. It is one of the oldest early Christian churches to be found in the territory of Macedonia. It is a 48m-long, three-aisled timber-roofed basilica. The inscription discovered during the excavations mentions the name of Sophronius, a Bishop of the time, which is why it was named Sophronius Basilica. Some of the most important findings in the church are the inlaid wall artworks in the opus sectile technique. Other significant findings in the church are the mosaic decoration of the floor and the remnants of murals and sculptures.

The Pine Tree of Chalkidiki has been characterised a natural monument to be preserved in accordance to Decision 44039/2525/1975 published in the Official Gazette, Series II, 738/1976 in the year 1976. The pine stands very close to the capital of the Municipality of Sithonia, Nikiti, near Polygyros. It is impressive in size and can be found right by the sea.
